Worst of Tornado Season Only Half Over

For three days this week, dozens of twisters lashed the South and the Great Plains, killing 38 people and destroying hundreds of homes. But the worst of the tornado season — which had been remarkably quiet until Sunday — could be yet to come. April and May are generally the busiest time of the year for twisters, and in recent years, about 48 percent of all confirmed tornadoes have touched down in those months.
