Newport Beach Homes Vandalized With Anti-Trump Graffiti

Police were investigating after an Orange County neighborhood was the target of vandals who covered the area with graffiti of anti- Donald Trump slogans.

Work crews were cleaning up all day Friday after residents in Corona del Mar awoke Thursday morning to find that their oceanside community was covered in spray-painted words, "F--- Trump" and other symbols that officials believe were gang-related.

"A couple of them are very dramatic and very meaningful, so we understood those obviously," said Leon Grant, a resident. "Maybe there's political choices involved and unhappiness that way. Who knows what they could be thinking?"

Other residents believe the graffiti against Donald Trump may have been a way to draw attention to why the wealthy affluent neighborhood was a target of the vandals.

"I think there's a lot of people that might not like wealth, so they come here to speak their peace," Randy Post, a resident, said.

City officials said there has not been a marked increase in the number of calls to their graffiti hotline, but they do see an increase in activity as summer arrives.

Post said he calls the hotline at least once a week.

"I think it's people wanting to express themselves and they're doing it in the wrong way," he said.

Police were hoping the suspects were caught through possible surveillance video.
