ISIS-Allied Group in Algeria Beheads Frenchman

A newly released video appears to show an Islamic extremist group in Algeria affiliated with ISIS beheading a French hostage, NBC News reported. France's president confirmed that the hostage, Herve Gourdel, had been "assassinated," The Associated Press reported. Gourdel, 55, was taken on Sunday by a group calling itself Jund al-Khilafah, or Soldiers of the Caliphate. The al-Qaida splinter group has pledged allegiance to the leader of ISIS and demanded that France halt airstrikes in Iraq, NBC News earlier reported.
