A's catcher Josh Phegley made history by becoming the first catcher in franchise history with eight RBI in a game. That's a lot. His current 21-season total is the most by a catcher in Major League Baseball.
"I've been telling guys I had a really good month today out here," Phegley told MLB Network after the A's dominated the Pirates, 14-1.
The Green and Gold will face Trevor Williams with Chris Bassitt getting starting honors.
Bassitt is coming off a dazzling performance on the mound against the Blue Jays when he tossed seven complete innings allowing one run and striking out nine. He boasts a 0.75 ERA heading into Saturday's matchup.
The San Francisco Chronicle's Susan Slusser reported A's center fielder Ramón Laureano will be out against the Pirates:
Ramón Laureano has a swollen foot after fouling a ball off it last night; he tried to stay in and keep playing, which he thinks made it worse. Nothing is broken and he hopes to play tomorrow but isn't sure. He's having trouble walking still.— Susan Slusser (@susanslusser) May 4, 2019
