Curry's Personal Trainer Discusses Steph's Knee Injury, ‘the First Thing He Said…'

In his return last Friday night vs Atlanta, Steph Curry was a little rusty in the first quarter -- 1-for-6 FG, 0-for-3 from deep.

But he caught fire and finished with 29 points on 10-for-18 from the field.

But unfortunately, he sustained a Grade 2 MCL sprain in his left knee with a little over three minutes remaining in the third quarter.

"I thought he moved pretty well against the Hawks," Curry's personal trainer Brandon Payne said on 95.7 The Game on Monday. "We didn't see quite the burst that you might have seen the first time around when he came back off the first lengthy ankle injury he had against New Orleans.

"I talked to him the day after and he said that the crazy thing was he felt great, that his legs felt great, he felt like everything was underneath him the way that it needed to be and he was balanced. So I took that as a good sign in terms of the ankle."

Curry will miss the rest of the regular season and isn't expected to return in the opening round in the playoffs.

But he's upbeat and in a good place mentally.

"In terms of him being so positive -- he's been through this so many times now and he has an incredible way to sit down and look at the positive things," Payne added. "The first thing he said when we were on the phone was, 'it could have been worse.' And he's right ... it's not nearly as bad as what it initially looked.

"And then you look for another silver lining -- the ankle is gonna get a little more rest."
