Hockey season is fast approaching, believe it or not, and crews at the Shark Tank were busy this week laying down the ice for the San Jose Sharks.
The two-day process of re-installing and painting the ice surface wrapped up Tuesday. It took 15,000 gallons of water and buckets of white paint to turn SAP Center back into a hockey rink.
Meanwhile, Sharks ticket sales for the 2018-19 season are ahead of what they were last year as the team offered a new option for fans who can’t commit to season tickets, team President Jonathan Becher said.
"What’s particularly popular this year is the half-season plan or even partial plan, where you can buy 11 games," Becher said. "And you can pick your games. If you want, you can pick Pacific rivals or see the traditional East Coast teams."
The Sharks preseason opener is next Tuesday at home against the Anaheim Ducks. The regular season starts Oct. 3, also at home and also against the rival Ducks.
Later this season, the Sharks and SAP Center will be hosting the NHL All-Star Game and weekend festivities on Jan. 25-26.
The Sharks begin training camp Friday at Solar4America Ice in San Jose. Camp practices and scrimmages are open to the public.
