NBA Rumors: Warriors Have ‘No Plans' for Jonathan Kuminga Trade

Report: Warriors currently have 'no plans' to trade Kuminga originally appeared on NBC Sports Bayarea

The Warriors utilized their No. 7 overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft on Jonathan Kuminga and "currently have no plans" to trade the 18-year-old, The San Francisco Chronicle's Connor LeTourneau reported Thursday night citing a league source.

"It also didn’t hurt that Kuminga probably had the most trade value of anyone available. The Warriors have already talked to teams about potential trade scenarios for Kuminga, but a league source told The Chronicle that they currently have no plans to deal him. That could change if an All-Star-caliber player becomes available. Should a team decide to unload one of its centerpieces and go all-in on a rebuild, Kuminga could be an intriguing player to build around," LeTourneau wrote.

One of the youngest players in this year's draft class, Kuminga initially doesn't appear to fit the Warriors' timeline of wanting players ready to compete for championships now.

The Warriors reportedly were exploring a number of trade possibilities leading up to Thursday's draft, but opted to select Kuminga and then Arkansas' Moses Moody with the organization's lottery picks.

A trade still is possible, but clearly the Warriors weren't able to find the right deal before the draft.

It seems likely the Warriors will try to take their two first-round rookies into 2021 and hope they can contribute enough to help get Golden State back into championship contention.
