How Streaky Athletics Already Have Made MLB History This Season

How streaky A's already have made MLB history this season originally appeared on NBC Sports Bayarea

Call Brad Pitt, get Jonah Hill on the phone: The start to the Athletics' 2021 season has been nothing short of "Moneyball 2."

The A's beat the Minnesota Twins 13-12 in 11 innings on Wednesday in wild fashion. Oakland's walk-off win on a throwing error kept the good times going, pushing their win streak to 11 straight games.

That seemed impossible with how the A's started their season. It quite literally couldn't have been a worse start. Now, it's a historic one.

According to STATS, the A's became the first team in MLB history to start a season 0-6 and win 11 straight games at any point later in the year.

The A's began the 2021 season with six straight losses and were 1-7 before reeling off 11 straight wins. They now are 12-7 and in first place in the AL West. Oakland is tied with the Boston Red Sox for the most wins in the AL and the second-most in the majors behind the Los Angeles Dodgers.

If you want to see just how wild this season has been so far for the A's, look at how low their playoff odds dropped and then have skyrocketed back up, per FanGraphs.

The A's lost a number of key players this offseason, including Marcus Semien, Liam Hendriks, Robbie Grossman and more. They were expected to take a step back and did so at the start of the season.

But the A's always keep it interesting, and their first 19 games have been built for the big screen.
