New MacBook Airs Let You Type in the Dark

Apple's MacBook Airs have always had a certain allure to them prior to announcement, during announcement and well after announcement. With new MacBook Airs set to drop any day now, rumor's going around that Apple's bringing back the backlit-keyboard that was lost during last Fall's refresh.

The original MacBook Airs sported a backlit-keyboard and so do all the MacBook Pros, so it was quite a surprise when we heard that the extra illumination on the (then new) MacBook Airs was stripped away.

AppleInsider's sources have it on good authority that Apple will reinstate the backlit-keyboard into MacBook Airs very soon. For non-touch typers, that's great news.

It's unclear whether Apple will restore the feature to both the 11.6-inch and the 13.3-inch MacBook Air, or keep it as a premium feature for the top-specced notebook.

Aside from the backlit-keyboard, the refreshed MacBook Airs should ship with the new OS X Lion, an operating system that brings all of the best of iOS to the Mac and new Intel Sandybridge CPUs. A cheaper price tag and longer battery life wouldn't hurt either.

If you're in the market for a new MacBook Air, it'd be best to hold out for just a few more days. The good stuff is coming out soon.
