Report Suggests New iPhone's Body Fits a Taller Screen

A clearer image of what Apple's sixth-generation iPhone will look like is coming together. Based on supplier part leaks, it's believed that the next iPhone could have a metal plated back with a redesigned case, as well as some new changes we've already tossed around before.

Apple intel blog 9to5Mac received the image from iFixyouri. According to the blog's assessment of the part, the iPhone back matches iLounge's report that the next iPhone might have a metal back and a smaller "micro dock" instead of the traditional 30-pin dock connector.

9to5Mac thinks that the extra space on the bottom of the case could be used to enhance the speakers, which should be louder and clearer. iFixyouri also chimes in saying the part supplier has seen colors other than white and black for the case. We also spot the headphone jack has moved from the top of the device to the bottom, mimicking the iPod Touch and iPad. The LED light next to the rear camera also looks to have shifted a little bit more to make room for the mic (located between the camera and LED light instead of on top of the iPhone).

9to5Mac has even more photos of the new iPhone design in black and white. Wow. There's also a white version of it that's broken cover published by MacRumors.

The next iPhone is also expected to receive a 4-inch Retina display with a resolution of 1136x640.

With all the hardware leaks out of the way, let's talk software; specifically iOS 6.

BGR posted some rather blurry shots of Apple's new Maps app along with a composite mock-up of a 3D map.

The iPhone version of Maps has a floating locate me button (it sounds very similar to Android's Google Maps app) in the bottom left corner. To access 3D mode, which will make use of Apple's C3 Technologies acquisition, you have to peel back the lower right corner of Maps just like the current version and enable 3D mode. Once enabled, you can switch in and out of 3D mode by tapping a 3D icon in the lower left corner.

BGR says that Apple is readying its enhanced Maps app for iOS 6 this summer.

Here we go again. You digging the possible new design? I'm feeling pretty "eh" about it. The metal seems to break the uniformity of the iPhone 4S's design. The speakers also look rather cheap on the bottom. I'm hoping this is a fake or a prototype. Sound off in the comments below.
