Culture Club Cancels SF, Oakland Dates

Local shows would have opened reunion tour

Eighties pop sensation Culture Club had selected San Francisco and Oakland as two of only seven cities to perform on its North American reunion tour, but has suddenly canceled due to illness.

The band was scheduled to play at the Nob Hill Masonic Center on November 16 and the Fox Theater on November 17, but a doctor has advised Boy George not to sing due to a polyp in his throat that may require surgery.

Ticketholders can get a refund at the point of purchase.

While the reunited Culture Club (which features all four original members) has not yet had a chance to do a concert, the band told UK morning show Lorraine that they've recorded several songs for a potential new album, which would be their first since 1999's Don't Mind If I Do. They have already worked in the studio with producer Youth, whose credits include albums for Primal Scream, The Verve and the Cult.
