Wicked Sound System started throwing parties in San Francisco in 1991.

In a fickle local club scene, Wicked Sound System is marking 23 years of uniting people on dancefloors and under full moons. Wicked 23 - The Magick Ball plans to bring the collective's now geographically-scattered DJs Garth, Jeno, Markie and Thomas (all British expats) back together in San Francisco to spin soulful dance music literally all night long. That's a big deal for a sometimes sleepy city.

There is one bittersweet element to this event: The now London-based Thomas has announced that this anniversary gig will be his last as a DJ. But this is not being billed as a final Wicked event; rather, it's a celebration of the enduring impact that one ardent crew has had on dance music culture in the Bay Area. Two decades on from Wicked's birth in SF and people are still coming together through the power of dance music.

Participate in this special birthday from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. at Mighty on June 7. Tickets are $20 in advance. Wicked has also partnered with Lyft to generate a discount code (Wicked23) offering a $25 credit to first-time riders.
