Call Him San Jose Police Chief Chris Moore

To the surprise of no one, the San Jose City Council officially named Chris Moore as the city's new police chief.

The council met in closed session Tuesday morning and confirmed City Manager's Debra Figone's selection.

Moore has been the interim chief since former chief Rob Davis stepped down last October.  Now he can lose the acting part of his title and officially take over the department.

Councilman Pierluigi Oliverio told the Mercury News that the council voted unanimously to approve Figone's selection.

Moore will lead the 1,250 force in California's third largest city. He is a 49-year-old Bay Area-native who is considered a veteran of the department.  He started on street patrol and worked his way up through the ranks.

He graduated from the University of California at Berkeley. He also got a law degree and is a member of the State Bar of California
