Car Hits Girl in East San Jose

Police had to close area near Independence High School for several hours while they investigated.

A girl is hospitalized with serious injuries after she was hit by a car Friday morning, in East San Jose, on eastbound McKee Road east of King Road, according to San Jose police. The girl is expected to survive.

Officers remained at the scene, trying to determine the cause of the automobile versus pedestrian collision in the area of McKee and Checkers Drive, a few blocks southwest of Overfelt Garden Park, Officer Albert Morales said.

Police responded to an emergency call at about 7:30 a.m. about a girl struck by a vehicle, according to Morales. The girl was hospitalized with injuries that were serious but not life-threatening, Morales said.

The driver of the vehicle stopped after the collision and cooperated with police officers, he said.

Morales announced at 9:24 a.m. that eastbound traffic on McKee had been reopened.
