Firefighters are working to access a car that apparently went off the side of the perilous Mt. Hamilton Road near San Jose.
A sheriff's deputy spotted the vehicle off the roadway at about 11:30 a.m. today in an unincorporated area near Three Springs Road, San Jose fire Capt. Charles Rangel said.
"We don't know if anybody's inside," he said.
He noted that the area can be dangerous for drivers.
"Mt. Hamilton has got some very steep dropoff areas," he said.
Rangel said a Cal Fire helicopter will likely lower a firefighter to the car to see whether anyone is inside.
"We'll see what we find," he said.
