Cisco killed off the Flip brand earlier this week, but it turns out they did so a mere day before they were supposed to unveil a brand new model: the FlipLive, a live-streaming handheld video camera.
The camera was supposed to be able to stream video directly to the web over the internet. It would have been pretty expensive, and it would have done what many smartphones, such as the iPhone 4, can already do. Which was really the whole problem with the Flip brand: standalone video cameras are being made obsolete by phones with video cameras built in, and this FlipLive wouldn't have changed that.
So really, it was probably for the best that this thing never saw the light of day. But it's interesting nonetheless.
