Former Sunnyvale Mayor Ron Swegles Dies

Sunnyvale city leaders are mourning the loss of former mayor and current council member Ron Swegles.

Swegles died Thursday morning in Michigan following declining health.

Swegles was 67-year-old.

"Ron’s death has struck all of us on Council very deeply," Sunnyvale Mayor Melinda Hamilton said. "Ron has served the City well as Councilmember and Mayor, and has worked tirelessly for the betterment of our community. He will be sorely missed by his fellow Councilmembers."

Swegles was first elected to the city council in 2003 and was in the final year of his second term in office at the time of his death.

He served as the city's mayor in 2005.

Swegles is survived by his wife, Gail. He had two children, three step-children, nine grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
