Tosh, a Red-tailed Hawk  was finally located after a two day search.  Tosh was located in a bush near the creek in Alum Rick Park.

Tosh went  missing after someone broke into the Alum Rock Aviary in Alum Rock Park in San Jose.

Around 9:30 p.m. Friday night, someone broke into the aviary and released the hawk and a Great Horned Owl named Thor from their cages.  Thor was found huddled in a corner near the aviary on Saturday morning.

The Alum Rock Aviary is part of the Youth Science Institute (YSI).  The animals are used as Animal Ambassadors who help teach children.  The animals are not releasable to the wild. They are rescue birds who cannot survive on their own in the wild due to injuries sustained before coming to the aviary. Tosh cannot fly more that five feet above the ground.  She can walk and run.

Volunteers spent all of Saturday searching Alum Rock Park and continued the search today when they finally located her.  Volunteers has searched the area several time but they believe Tosh was moving around so that is why it took so long to locate her.  She seems to be fine after spending a couple of nights in the cold.

San Jose Police are investigating the break-in.  The person who broke into the center also cut the power to the center and broke into the ranger station.
