Knife-Wielding Man Killed By Fremont Police

Two officers filed at the suspect; both have been put on administrative leave

A 53-year-old man was shot and killed by police in Fremont this morning, according to the police department.

At about 6:45 a.m., dispatch received a 911 call from a woman requesting help with her mentally ill adult son, according to Fremont police.

The suspect, who was apparently armed with a knife, had overturned furniture, stabbed a door and thrown objects out a window, police said.

Arriving officers were able to evacuate two family members who had been inside the home. A third relative was unable to get out due to a medical condition, police said.

Two relatives suffered wounds that were not expected to be life threatening.

As the two officers entered the home, they were confronted by the suspect, police said.

Both officers fired and shot the suspect.

Fremont fire paramedics pronounced the man dead at the scene.

The two officers, both seven-year veterans of the Fremont Police Department, have been placed on paid administrative leave pending an investigation by Fremont police and the Alameda County District Attorney's Office.
