580 Baby Daddy: Sorry for the Traffic

"Labor day" on the freeway

A Bay Area family of three grew by one member Thursday morning while stalling freeway traffic.

Emergency crews in Livermore got a call at about 5 a.m. reporting a woman in labor on Interstate 580 at Grant Line Road. By the time an ambulance got to the scene, the baby was out. A 911 operator talked the father through the delivery.

The parents' other child, a 5-year-old, was also in the car.

Mom and new delivery, a boy, were taken to a Tracy hospital.

The newborn's dad is proud, thankful and somewhat apologetic about the whole incident. After reading our story, he posted a comment, thanking the 911 operator but also saying, "sorry for causing the morning traffic."

We're hoping he sends us pictures of the new addition.

Jessica Greene can't speak for the drivers stalled during the delivery, but sure hopes they weren't cursing the cause of the traffic jam.
