Residents of an East Bay town have said that the wife of Orlando gunman Omar Mateen grew up in their neighborhood, and her mother still lives there.

Noor Zahi Salman was raised in a house in Rodeo, which is about 45 minutes from San Francisco, but had not been seen at the home since 2011, neighbors told NBC Bay Area. They said she moved to Florida when she married Mateen.

The marriage reportedly was the second for both Mateen and Zahi Salman. They reportedly have a son.

A woman thought to be Mateen's mother-in-law arrived at the house Sunday evening with media crews waiting but pulled her vehicle inside the garage. She would not answer the front door.

Mateen opened fire at an Orlando nightclub early Sunday morning, killing at least 50 people and wounding dozens more. He then was shot and killed in a gunbattle with SWAT team members.
