One Dead in Apartment Fire in SF

San Francisco fire officials tell NBC Bay Area that one person has died in a fire in an apartment building in the City.

Fire crews were called to a two-alarm fire near St. Mary's Cathedral at 66 Cleary Court between Geary and Laguana at 9:50 a.m..

They said they had water on the fire by 10:01 a.m. and had it knocked down minutes later.

There were two other people hurt in the fire who needed rescue by emergency officials. Their injuries were not considered life threatening according to officials. In all 12 people had to be evacuated because of the fire.

Witnesses said a wall of fire roared from the second and third floor of the apartment complex in the early minutes of the fire. Some residents said they left their breakfast dishes and ran out to safety.

It was not immediately clear how the first started.
