Possible Animal Sacrifice Spotted in San Francisco

Decapitated bird near Lake Merced may have been killed in Santeria ritual

Who here practices Santeria?

You may have some explaining to do.

San Francisco Animal Care and Control officers are looking to see who was responsible for a possible "animal sacrifice" near Lake Merced in the city's southwestern corner, according to the San Francisco Examiner.

Police responded to a call of two dead animals at about 11 a.m. on Wednesday, according to the newspaper, and there they found two dead game birds called chukars.

Animal Care and Control gets several such calls per year -- but, according to SF Weekly, Santeria would have required proper disposal of the animals.

Leaving them out as found would have been against the tenets of the religion.
