Resident Arrested in East Bay Apartment Complex Rape

An East Bay man is behind bars for suspicion of raping a woman at the apartment complex where he lives.

Contra Costa County Sheriff’s deputies arrested 51-year-old William Yokeum in connection with a sexual assault that happened last month at the Park Regency Apartments in Walnut Creek.

Police say Yokeum forced his way into the woman’s apartment when she got home on Sept. 16 and raped her. He and the woman had previously met, according to police.

Yokeum, 51, was arrested Wednesday and formally charged on Friday with several sexual assault offenses and burglary. He’s in the Contra Costa County Jail on $1.6 million bail.

This is the second arrest in a series of attacks at the Park Regency apartment complex. Another man was arrested in August in connection to three other attacks.

Detectives are looking for another man they want to talk to about an attack that happened at the complex a couple weeks ago.

In that assault, the victim told police a man grabbed her in the open-air hallway and tried to push her into her apartment. She fought the attacker but fell down the stairs and hurt her leg and back.

Security has increased at the complex and in the surrounding areas because of the attacks, police said.
