Richmond City Jail Floods Following Suicide Attempt

Broken sprinkler system following suicide attempt leads to flood.

Richmond's city jail flooded, at a still-unknown cost to the city, after a sprinkler system broke during a suicide attempt.

A 19-year-old woman tied a blanket to an overhead sprinkler in her cell in a hanging attempt, the Bay Area News Group reported.

The "weight of her body" broke the sprinkler, the newspaper group reported, leading to a flood in her cell and a psychiatric hold for her.

She was in jail on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon following an alleged encounter with a man upon whom used a knife on Tuesday, the newspaper reported.

Other jail cells were also flooded.
