SF Veterans Memorial Finally Chosen

The veterans memorial in San Francisco has been chosen -- about 90 years after the project started.

The Arts Commission said in a press release that the octagonal space near the Civic Center will finally be getting a memorial after having three possibilities on public display at the Veterans Building, according to The Ex.

The final choice has three reflective pools with a "walkway defined by wall of reflective basalt." One of the walls will have "The Young Dead Soldiers Do Not Speak" -- a poem by Archibald MacLeish.

The total cost for the project, including maintenance, is $2.5 million, with the commission having secured $1.8 million of that thus far.
