Drunken driving charges have been filed against a San Jose councilman, who quickly disclosed his DUI arrest earlier this month.
Court documents released Thursday show Santa Clara County prosecutors formally charged Councilman Ash Kalra this week with driving under the influence of alcohol and driving with a blood-alcohol level of 0.08 or more. Prosecutors say a June 21court appearance could be delayed.
Kalra disclosed during a news conference a day after his arrest that he was pulled over in downtown San Jose early on May 7 for a broken tail light after spending the evening with friends.
The San Jose Mercury News says court documents show Kalra refused to tell the California Highway Patrol officer his employer or business address
