Suspect Fires on CHP Patrol Car in San Jose: Police

Someone fired at least one bullet into a California Patrol Highway patrol car in San Jose late Thursday night and drove away.

San Jose police Officer Albert Morales said the shooting was reported at 11:36 p.m. on
northbound U.S. Highway 101 near Tully Road.

When they got there, they learned a two-officer CHP was fired on while the officers were conducting some type of car stop, Morales said.

The officers were not injured. The suspect or suspects are at large.

The freeway was shutdown momentarily while officers conducted follow up investigation.

Morales said he wasn't sure if the officers were the intended target or not. He did note, however, that some have "contempt" for officers, who have an inherently dangerous job.
