SFO's Hippest Airline Now Heads To The Beaver State

Virgin America will open routes to Portland

San Francisco's modern and hip airline, Virgin America, is now reaching out to Oregon.     The carrier recently announced new non-stop flights to Portland.

And Virgin America is flying out in style.

Tuesday afternoon at San Francisco International airport, the mayor of Portland and other dignitaries are expected to attend a ribbon cutting ceremony.   Also appearing will be actor Kyle MacLachlan who stars in the cable show "Portlandia", which airs in the IFC network.

Virgin America is also holding a special discount program for people living in Portland.   A Facebook app allows folks to upload funny and unique pictures to score discount rates and a chance to win free tickets.

Virgin America is the only airline headquartered in the San Francisco Bay Area.    It works independently from its two other siblings, Virgin Atlantic and Virgin Australia.
