A Long Island woman was arrested after she was allegedly found sitting in a parked car half-conscious with several bags of heroin and a baby sweating profusely in the back seat.
Officers found the 28-year-old woman slumped over in a Dodge parked in a lot off the Hempstead Turnpike in Levittown at about 2:30 p.m. Monday, according to the Suffolk County Police Department.
The infant was moving around in a seat in the back of the car, which police say was locked and had its windows rolled up.
Officers say they knocked on the window until the woman got out. She was then placed under arrest. Police say they found a hypodermic needle and three bags of heroin.
The infant was taken to the hospital for heat exhaustion and was held overnight for observation.
The woman, Jessica Rosengart, was charged with endangering the welfare of a child and two counts of reckless endangerment.
She also faces criminal contempt charges because she allegedly violated a court order barring her from being with the child alone or possessing drugs. It's not clear if she has an attorney.
