Reserve Officer in Video About Running Over Bicyclists Resigns

"The Santa Paula Police Department did not condone this video and are extremely embarrassed by it," the Santa Paula Police Department said in a news release

A Southern California police volunteer officer who posted a video online about running over bicyclists has resigned.

Laura Weintraub submitted a letter of resignation to the police chief on Sunday, the Santa Paula Police Department said in a news release. The chief confirmed it in a post on the department's Facebook page.

"The purpose of this post is to advise the community that I have accepted the resignation of Volunteer Reserve Officer Laura Weintraub. Her resignation is effective today. I believe that Ms. Weintraub did the right thing for everyone involved and wish her nothing but the best for her and her family," said the post with Chief Steven McLean's name at the end.

Weintraub had been placed on paid administrative leave and stripped of her police credentials as an internal investigation was underway into the YouTube video in which she says, "I hate bicyclists, every single one of them."

"The Chief of Police as well as the Santa Paula Police Department did not condone this video and are extremely embarrassed by it. This video did not and does not express the views of the Santa Paula Police Department nor the Chief of Police," the release said.

In the video, she also asks a man driving her how much she'd have to pay for him to run over a cyclist.
His response: "How much do you have in your wallet right now?"

In the last frame of the video, a photo showing a vehicle crashing into a group of bicyclists is shown with text that reads "Like you've never thought about it..."

A second reserve officer was also placed on administrative leave for posting a response to comments on the department's Facebook page, the police chief said.
