Right as the NFL season is poised to begin, New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady was involved in a car accident in Boston’s Back Bay early this morning. He is reportedly unharmed. From the Boston Globe:

One witness told reporters that Brady was traveling south on Commonwealth Avenue and had a green light when the minivan went through a red light and the two cars collided.

Neighborhood resident Bill Barron said he heard a sound like thunder and looked out his window to see the accident.

"I thought it was a college student who had taken his dad's car and got into an accident," he said.

He said Brady seemed a little shaken and was dusting glass off himself… Brady went into an ambulance and a few minutes later was picked up by someone in a Jeep Cherokee and drove off.

The Globe has a picture of Brady’s car after the accident, and you can see another pic of it at ESPN writer Jemele Hill’s Twitter feed right here. That Brady was able to walk away unscathed from such a wreck is a pretty lucky turn of events, because that Audi is totaled, brother.

We’ve all been in car accidents before. Regardless of who you are, being in one can haunt you for a good long time. Even the accidents you don’t get in, those times where you almost get into an accident but just narrowly avoid it, can disturb your thoughts from time to time. It’s a real and traumatic event that no one, not even Tom Brady, is automatically spared from.

The Patriots open the season against Cincinnati on Sunday. It’ll be nice to see Brady on the field, fully intact. You never know when fate will decide otherwise.
