Vanilla Ice has accepted a plea deal to perform community service after being arrested over a break-in and theft at an abandoned home in Florida next door to one he was renovating for his TV show.
The rapper, whose real name is Robert Van Winkle, agreed in circuit court in West Palm Beach on Thursday to a fine and 100 hours of community service to avoid grand theft charges.
Van Winkle hosts a home-improvement show, DIY Network's "The Vanilla Ice Project," and was renovating a home next to the victim. He said the alleged theft was a misunderstanding.
Under his plea deal, he must complete his community service hours at Habitat for Humanity of Palm Beach County, attend a 4-hour anti-theft course and pay $1,333.39 in restitution.
According to police, the burglary happened at a home in the 100 block of N. Atlantic Drive between December and February. Numerous furniture items, a pool heater, bicycles and other items were taken, police said.
"I'm glad to have this behind me," Van Winkle told The Palm Beach Post.
The 47-year-old rose to fame with the 1990 hit song "Ice Ice Baby."
