This winter when it gets a little chilly, you might have to suck it up, turn on the heat and watch your PG&E bills rise faster than the smoke from that lovely fire you're not allowed to burn. Between November and February, Bay Area residents will be required to hold off on the wood smoke on "Spare the Air" days. There are about a million wood-burning fireplaces and stoves in the nine counties, and when they're all stoked, they can contribute 1/3 of the area's air pollution.
