Happy Thanksgiving: No Money for Oakland Workers

City shuts down services to cut costs

Keep the city open is the cry from Oakland city workers protesting Mayor Ron Dellums decision to shut down city services.

In fact, if you go into city hall, you will find the city of Oakland's mission statement on the wall, wheret the first line reads "the city of Oakland is committed to the delivery of effective, courteous, and responsive services."

Dellums and other city officials say the closures are necessary to cut costs and balance the city's struggling budget.

The union says it will hold a rally at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Frank Ogawa Plaza.

The workers will be protesting the city's shutdown.
