Lower Haight's Fifty24SF Gallery was transformed into a psychedelic wonderland Friday night as mysterious clothing retailer Imaginary Foundation took over the small Fillmore Street. space. Claiming to be a "think tank from Switzerland" that specializes in "experimental research on new ways of thinking and the power of the imagination," the San Francisco-based collective painted the normally pristine walls of the gallery black and covered every empty space with the chalk scrawling of a prototypical mad professor. It created quite the backdrop for the dozens of original Dadaist-inspired pieces hung throughout the space, several of which are captured in the gallery above.
Overheard at the unusually diverse opening – a heated discussion over which hallucinogen hippie guru Timothy Leary truly claimed as his favorite. Ah, San Francisco.
