McDonalds Drive Thru Turns Fatal for Petaluma Man

Man crashes into four parked cars and dies

A 68-year-old man died from a crash Saturday afternoon after he lost
control of the car from a Petaluma McDonald's drive-through, drove over two
landscaped medians and hit four parked vehicles, according to the police
department.

Floyd Lawrence Mattison of Petaluma crashed the red GMC S15 Jimmy
around 12:45 p.m. in the Gateway Shopping Center at the corner of Lakeville
Street and Caulfield Lane, police Sgt. Ken Savano said.

He was in the front of the drive-through line when he might have
suffered from a medical emergency just before the collision, Savano said.

Police are investigating how he accelerated to about 30 mph, rode
over curbs, through a grass area and into the middle four vehicles that were
facing each other in two pairs.

Mattison was unresponsive when officers arrived. CPR did not work
so he was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

A 68-year-old woman was in the passenger seat of the car and did
not suffer any injuries.

A 64-year-old man was sitting inside one of the parked vehicles, a
Toyota pickup, and suffered from minor injuries, Savano said.

No other injuries were reported.
