Holiday window displays have long been the front-facing beating heart of the nation's most glamorous department stores, with spectacular crowd-drawing visuals that date back to the 19th century.
This year, however, retailers are uppping the ante with some serious technology -- including 3-D projections and animatronics -- as well as decidedly quirky themes. We went behind the scenes with window and creative directors from Barneys, Saks Fifth Avenue, and Bergdorf Goodman to determine what makes for a truly great holiday window.
