500 Without Power in Carson City, Storm Delays Tahoe Schools

RENO, Nev. (AP) - A late winter storm delayed the start of school at Lake Tahoe and temporarily left about 500 homes and businesses without power in the Carson City area.

The National Weather Service has issued a high lake wind advisory effective through 7 p.m. Monday for Lake Tahoe and Pyramid Lake. Sustained winds up to 25 mph were creating waves at both lakes up to 3-feet high.

The winds damaged at least one building and downed a tree in front of the state Capitol in Carson City. NV Energy expects all power to be restored by 3 p.m.

About an inch of snow was reported at Tahoe City, California. The cold snap is expected to be short-lived with highs in Reno back into the mid-60s by Wednesday and mid-70s by Friday.
