One person died Thursday night in a multi-vehicle collision on Interstate 880 in Hayward, and police were still searching for one of the drivers who fled the scene, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The crash was reported about 9:45 p.m. on northbound I-880 near A Street, the CHP said. Four vehicles were involved in the crash.
One person died at the scene, and four others were taken to local hospitals with minor injuries, police said.

CHP units and local police were searching nearby neighborhoods for one of the drivers involved who they believe fled the scene on foot, police said.
All other drivers involved remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation, the CHP said.
