11-Year-Old Watsonville Girl Who Died in I-280 Crash Identified

The Santa Clara County medical examiner's office has identified an 11-year-old Watsonville girl who died in a crash on Interstate Highway 280 near Palo Alto on Saturday as Dalia Campos.

The girl was one of eight people in a white Ford F-150 pickup truck headed north on the highway at about 11:30 a.m. when it veered off the roadway south of Page Mill Road for unknown reasons and overturned, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Dalia and two other Watsonville residents -- the driver, 37-year-old Maria Campos, and Simon Figueroa, 44 -- were ejected from the pickup and suffered major injuries, the CHP reported.

The girl died shortly after she was taken to a hospital, according to the CHP. The five other passengers suffered minor to moderate injuries.

CHP investigators said it does not appear that alcohol or drugs played a role in the crash, but they said at least several people in the truck -- including the three who were ejected -- were not wearing seat belts.
