A South Bay family said they lost almost everything in an instant after a 2-alarm fire broke out at an apartment building Saturday night.
The fire started at about 10:30 p.m. at a four-plex on North Sixth Street in San Jose.
It started in a garage and soon grew to two alarms.
One of the residents said he heard a huge explosion and ran outside.
"There was just a big old ball of flames and everything was up in fire," George Vargas said. "I turn around and everything was all in flames. Everything burned down, lot of memories of childhood stuff. A lot of that stuff went to waste."
In addition to two vehicles and a trailer, the fire blew out the windows at a church behind the garage.
Local
