A 13-year-old boy has been arrested in connection with using the social media service Instagram to make threats to a student and threatening to bomb a school, according to the Burlingame Police Department.
Police received a report on Monday from the parents of a female middle school student at the Our Lady of Angels School in Burlingame about a student allegedly posting a threat to the girl on Instagram, police said.
The person also allegedly posted a bomb threat with a reference to her school and threats toward a second student, police said.
Police investigated and identified the suspect, who officers learned was actually the second student who was threatened and a male classmate of the girl, police said.
Officers interviewed the suspect with his mother and the suspect said he had no intention of harming anyone or exploding a bomb and made the threats to attract attention, police said.
Police later searched the boy's residence and located materials that could be used to make a bomb or harm another person, police said.
The juvenile was arrested on suspicion of "making terrorists threats," police said.
