California Highway Patrol Motorcycle Officer Hit By Car

A California Highway Patrol officer suffered major injuries when his motorcycle collided with another car while he was trying to catch up with a police chase, a CHP spokesman said.

The crash happened at about 10:10 a.m. Thursday morning near the corner of MacArthur Boulevard and Martin Luther King Jr. Way, CHP officials said.

The driver of a tan four-door Nissan sedan was heading east on MacArthur Boulevard while the CHP officer was heading west, but it's not clear at this time how the accident occurred, CHP Officer Sean Wilkenfeld said shortly before noon.

The officer had his lights and sirens on and was trying to catch up with a pursuit when the crash happened, Wilkenfeld said.

Both the driver of the Nissan and the CHP officer were taken to the hospital, according to Wilkenfeld. He did not know the extent of the injuries to the Nissan driver.
