Two cars, a motorcycle and a carport were destroyed, but a five-unit apartment building was spared, in a fire in Mill Valley Saturday evening, firefighters said.

Mill Valley Fire Department Battalion Chief Scott Barnes said firefighters didn't have to go far - about a block, to the apartment complex near the intersection of Corte Madera Avenue and Lower Alcatraz Place, just before 6 p.m. Saturday. Firefighters found the carport completely on fire.

Two cars under the carport were destroyed, Barnes said, as was a motorcycle firefighters believe may have started the fire. But the adjacent apartment building was spared, and no one was injured, Barnes said.

It took firefighters about 15 minutes to put the fire out, Barnes said.
