Police said a 32-year-old Redwood City man is dead after a booze-inspired fight with a man he had been drinking with.

The deadly stabbing was reported on Wednesday about 8:30 p.m. in Courthouse Square on Broadway in downtown Redwood City.

Lt. Sean Hart said the two had been drinking when they got into a verbal argument, which escalated into a physical confrontation, and the victim was stabbed.

Investigators found the suspect, a 24-year-old homeless man identified as Jake Monahan, and booked him into the San Mateo County Jail on a homicide charge. The two men knew each other, police said.

The name of the victim was not immediately released.
