Father Convicted for Putting Son in Oven

A California jury has convicted a father of child abuse for putting his son in a hot oven to teach the toddler a lesson.

Prosecutors say 21-year-old Gregory Colver of Daly City wanted to demonstrate the danger of a hot oven after the 17-month-old child banged his hand against the door of the stove.

San Mateo County District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe says Colver dropped or placed the boy in the oven, causing second- and third-degree burns.

The San Jose Mercury News says Colver was convicted Monday and he was immediately taken into custody. He faces up to 12 years in prison when he's sentenced Aug. 16.
