A driver behind the wheel of a Tesla slammed into a tree in Fremont Monday morning, sparking a blaze in the process, according to police.
The crash occurred around 7:10 a.m. in the area of Paseo Padre Parkway and Thornton Avenue, police said.
The driver suffered non-life threatening injuries and was taken to a hospital, according to police.
"The driver is very fortunate to have been able to walk away from this with only minor injuries," police tweeted.
Authorities are looking into whether fatigue played a role in the wreck.
Tesla engineers responded to the crash site to investigate, according to police.
