Firefighters Battle Three-Alarm Mobile Home Park Blaze in San Jose

No injuries were immediately reported.

Fire crews responded to a three-alarm fire at a San Jose mobile home park Monday afternoon.

An abandoned barn outside La Buena Vita park at North Capitol Avenue and McKee Road caught fire just before 2 p.m. The flames then spread to and damaged two homes before crews were able to prevent its advance, officials said.

"We've got a barn and some type of grass and vegetation back here," San Jose Fire Department spokesman Chris Salcido said. "That fire burned very hot and very fast."

It was a chaotic scene and for some mobile home owners, a very scary one. A woman who lost her home to the blaze said she was grateful her neighbors alerted her to get out of the house.

Lien Bui described a "very big fire" and "lots of smoke" that charred "two big trees" and a fence.

I am "glad to be alive," Bui said.

No injuries were immediately reported, the San Jose Fire Department said on Twitter.

Some residents said the empty barn is sometimes used by the homeless, but investigators say they are still trying to determine a cause.
