A slow moving brush fire that consumed a couple acres in the Hayward hills was extinguished on Wednesday afternoon, but temporary road closures persist, according to Hayward Fire Department.

Initially, it seemed like the vegetation fire off of D Street in Hayward's Fairview was threatening structures, Capt. Don Nichelson said. It has since been put out and no structures were damaged.

Fire crews were still there targeting hot spots as of about 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nichelson said.
